The Yearly Question That Shapes My Home and Life
At the end of each year, I ask myself one simple question:
What were three of my best decisions?
I started doing this because I thought it might give me permission to finally throw out all my dusty old wall calendars.
You see, for well over a decade, I kept old wall calendars I didn’t need. They weren’t useful - but they felt important. I did some digging to figure out why they had such a hold on me. I realized that as long as I kept them, I could see evidence that my life mattered.
When I began tracking my best decisions each year, instead of my past events, something really monumental shifted...
My sense of meaning moved out of the stuff, and into my own personal agency. The calendars became unnecessary. Letting them go wasn’t emotional. It was easy and obvious.
I was finally free from all the old calendars!
(And my husband Randy (the minimalist) was thrilled to see them go. 😊)
In this episode, I share why better decisions - not more discipline - create less clutter, and how this one question can change what you keep, what you release, and how you move forward.
