A Simply Full System

This past Sunday my husband Randy and I took our 9 year old Cole and 7 year old Will Riley mountain biking. We drove up to Golden Gate Canyon, a Colorado State Park located about an hour from our home that’s just west of Denver. We parked, got on our bicycle gear and started riding up a quiet service road that was closed to vehicles. Although it was sunny overhead, dark storm clouds were building to the west. Soon we were all breathing hard as the mountain air is thin. It didn’t take long to to work up a sweat. About 15 minutes into the ride we turned off the road onto a steep and narrow trail. We rode in a single file line. The trail didn’t stay smooth for long, but no one complained when the large rocks and tree roots interrupted our flow. We dismounted, pushed our bicycles over the hurdle and then mounted our bicycles again. This happened numerous times. It was hard work for us all. But we were surrounded by beauty, together, and open to the possibilities of this adventure.

After riding awhile we came upon a stream. Randy and Cole decided to keep going up the trail when it became clear that Will Riley wanted to pause and explore the area. When we heard thunder we got back on our bikes, turned around, and headed back toward the parking lot. Although the trail was intense for Will Riley, he didn’t complain and kept moving forward. Picking up speed, his feet flew off his pedals a few times and I thought I’d watch him go down. Somehow he managed to stay upright. We got back to the quiet road. Will Riley quickly took off down the hill. I caught up to him and we rode side-by-side. We were going fast. He looked over at me with his eyes shiny and bright and with a huge smile across his face.

“Mom it feels like we’re flying! Mom, can you feel the wind on your face? Mom I know there aren’t cars on this road but you should still be careful. Mom we’re going to beat Cole and Daddy home!”

He was exhilarated. All the earlier climbing was worth it because he was now flying down the mountain reaping the rewards of all his hard work. He shrieked with joy and laughed. He was the image of pure happiness.

This is a Simply Full moment.

Simply Full moments are moments where we feel good about ourselves for being where we are because we intentionally worked—mentally, emotionally, or physically—to get there.

Here are a few examples of Simply Full moments:

  1. Deciding to get back on a bicycle after it sat in the garage for 10 years and riding farther than you thought you would.

  2. Learning how to change the thoughts that create the feelings that drive you to do things you later regret—like overeating and over-drinking.

  3. Knowing the root cause of your weight gain, learning how to take it off permanently, and no longer feeling embarrassed in your swimming suit this summer.

  4. Following a meal plan and not having to toss spoiled produce at the end of the week.

  5. Trying a new recipe and realizing that it was a lot easier than you thought it would be.

  6. Getting kids to eat better without complaints.

  7. Not succumbing to food cravings in the evening and feeling proud about it.

  8. Saying no to more clutter in your life

  9. Learning how to enhance your relationships—starting with yourself and then with others.

  10. Knowing that you created a body and a life that you love.

(What Simply Full moments don’t look like: Counting calories and portion sizes. Feeling deprived and left out. Losing the weight only to put it back on faster than you lost it. Being overwhelmed on where to start. Not understanding why you’re not taking action. Trying to change a negative behavior before addressing the root cause of that behavior.)

I want everyone to have MORE Simply Full moments.

And I’m on a mission to make this happen.

So drum roll please…Introducing Simply Full, my virtual membership club focused on whole-body wellness + weight loss. It’s a system specifically designed to help you create a life where you feel truly good about yourself. It's for you if you want to discover a way of living that consciously enhances your health and wellbeing.

What does the Simply Full system look like?

Each member receives a foundational package and meal plan starter kit within 24 hours of enrolling. Each month of Simply Full focuses on a unique theme that inspires further growth and learning. On Sunday evenings I share a weekly lesson which is accompanied by a homework assignment designed to create deeper and richer conversations around the monthly theme. On Wednesdays I give a behind-the-scenes view of what we’re eating for the rest of the week, and once a month I do live coaching. Topics range from willpower and quitting sugar to finding the motivation to meal plan and getting kids to eat better.  Everything is recorded so that you can watch at your convenience.

The Simply Full methodology is rooted in positive psychology, functional nutrition, and minimalism. It’s designed to guide you to focus on the things that matter most by putting energy toward a body and life you love. It’s about getting you a lot closer to your goals. It's community. It's camaraderie. It's for you if you want to lose 5 pounds or 100 pounds. It's about finding freedom and flow. Cutting back on stuff. Coasting down a mountain road and becoming the healthiest and happiest version of yourself.

In Simply Full, you’ll find encouragement and inspiration to get and stay on track. I include healthy family recipes and advice on changing both your own eating habits and your children’s. I address eating healthy on a budget, emotional eating, decluttering your kitchen, eating healthy on the road, and eliminating stress from your food prep routine. I go beyond nutrition and address areas that in aggregate lead to a dramatically increased quality of life.
